Advocacy to shift policies at international organizations
Create a work team to develop proposals or resolutions for changing the policies of a target international institution, so that it better supports participatory democracy. Initial possibilities could be the Open Government Partnership, UNDP, or World Bank, for example. Use the collective power of multiple member organizations to win international support for our collective work, and influence the agendas of international institutions.
Expenses include staff time and potentially contract work to develop proposals.
Cost estimate: $15,000-20,000

Most international organizations are including participatory governance in their agendas. It is the right time for People Powered to try to influence on how participation is conceived and defined in these organizations.
Finding the right committed individuals situated within such organisations, who could champion within their institution this initiative will be key to its success. Global institutions can be heavily bureaucratic and used to resisting 'lobbying, so needs to be well framed. However if it works the wins can be significant.
