Organizational travel policy

Avatar: Nikhil Kumar Nikhil Kumar

Short description:

Develop a policy to guide decision-making on staff & member travel.

Long Description:

It would be helpful to develop a set of guidelines/criteria to decide who, how, and how often we travel. How can we ensure that staff and members have opportunities to travel while balancing environmental and financial constraints? This question has implications for our organizational values and our commitment to climate action.

Should we consider carbon emissions when deciding to fly? Should we prioritize train travel when possible? How often should we hold in-person member meetings? How should we factor in visa requirements? Many organizations have similar policies. It would be great to work through these questions together as a community.

I think it would be great to have a broader environmental / climate policy that includes travel, but also other aspects - for ex climate-friendly catering at in person convenings / events, more sustainable accommodation options, how do we offset the carbon of our international flights , etc.
