A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.
Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.
We are currently in the voting stage, where you will vote on new organizational policies, activities we will prioritize for 2024, and new board of directors members. You can vote from November 13th to 26th.
About this process
This process belongs to Ongoing processes
We’re deciding on new organizational policies, and you can help decide which ones we will implement.
Help shape the policies that guide how we work together. Through a participatory policy-making process, we’re inviting our members - participatory democracy organizations and advocates around the world– to decide on new organizational policies to advance our mission, values, and plans.
First, everyone is invited to review drafts of developed policies on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, New Governance Structure and Membership policies. We then invite you to share your ideas for new policies on issues such as organizational governance, membership, research, governance, finance, and fundraising. Please be as specific as possible. Then, our members, board, and staff will discuss policy ideas, further develop them, and comment on previously developed policies.
Finally, members will vote to decide which policies we will develop and implement. A Governance Committee consisting of member organizations and board members will be overseeing the process.
There will be video calls during the proposals stage to facilitate conversations and development of policy proposals. Members will be able to contribute to the conversations asynchronously through the governance platform.
Proposals will be considered eligible if they meet the following criteria:
