Being a member of the People Powered Board of Directors would enable me to strengthen international collaboration ties on the topic of digital participation, while at the same time bringing to the organization a vision from Brazil, a country with a strong contribution to participatory democracy. I met People Powered in 2021 and since then I have been able to collaborate with its members, whether as a researcher, discussing studies and analysis, or as a practitioner, working in the Brazilian Government.

Currently, I am serving as Director of Digital Participation and Network Communication at the General Secretariat of the Brazilian Presidency of the Republic, being responsible for the Brasil Participativo Platform (brasilparticipativo.presidencia.gov.br). Launched in May 2023, this platform has already had more than 1.4 million participants in its first participatory process: the discussion of the Pluri-Year Plan, which establishes the Government's public policy priorities for the next 4 years. This is one of the largest digital participation initiatives around the world and it uses the open source software Decidim.

I have worked both as a practitioner and as a scholar, in different moments of my career, mostly dedicated to topics of participatory democracy. I received my PhD in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Brasília (UnB). As main achievements, I highlight the launching of the Youth Participatory Observatory (Awarded for best public interest content site in 2014) and the general coordination of the 3rd. National Youth Conference (2015), an event for 3,000 people in which part of its participants were elected through a participatory digital platform. In 2022, I received an award for the best article on Participatory Budgeting at an ICLD Sweden event.

Institution name: General Secretariat of the Brazilian Presidency of the Republic

    Country: Brazil

    Native language(s): Portuguese

    English Proficiency: Full professional proficiency
