Board of Directors Selection Criteria

The board of directors is the high-level governance body for People Powered. It guides strategy and policy, plans for financial sustainability, and ensures that the organization is carrying out its goals effectively. You can find more information on the Board of Directors selection here, and below you'll find a summary of the information.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in up to six board meetings per year, generally via video call.
  • Participate in occasional discussions and meetings outside of board meetings, as part of smaller board committees or initiatives.
  • Be available to staff for consultation & guidance.
  • Know, review, approve, and monitor the organization's budget, strategic plan, and major organizational policies.
  • Actively support organizational fundraising. This may include connecting the organization to funders or donors, writing or revising fundraising proposals or appeals, donating, thanking supporters for their contributions, or other tasks.
  • Actively promote the organization and represent it in a positive light.


Qualifications:

Individuals will be considered eligible for the Board of Directors if they meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant expertise for carrying out the organization's work, which may include but is not limited to communications, advocacy, fundraising, technology, international law, international development, public and nonprofit administration, and organizational management.
  • Passion for the organization's work to build participatory democracy around the globe.
  • Previous experience with participatory democracy programs is ideal.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in English.
