Global Participatory Democracy Database
Accepted
I propose we develop a working group develop proposals for how we might conceptualize and finance a global database of participatory democracy. In order to better understand what works and what doesn't work in the world of PB in particular and participatory institutions more generally, we desperately need a clearer sense of what experiments already exist across the globe, and how they vary in terms of scope, design, sociopolitical and economic contexts, impacts, among other key indicators. The PB Atlas is a terrific source of information about PB processes, but in order to understand why certain types of participatory experiments emerge in some contexts and not others, and why some succeed in empowering communities more than others, we need a more expansive, fine-grained, continually-updated dataset that can more easily facilitate comparative analysis.
